field of endeavour: High achiever to share secrets

WITH his trademark permed hair and never-say-die attitude, Kevin Keegan terrorised defences in the 1970s and 1980s.

He scored 21 goals in 63 appearances for England, and was a leading member of the great Liverpool team of the 1970s.

The former European Footballer of the Year went on to manage Newcastle United and England. He will share his thoughts on determination and endeavour when he appears as a speaker at the Yorkshire International Business Convention (YIBC) in Bridlington. Mr Keegan will be appearing for the benefit of the Hull Children’s University, a charity of which he recently became a patron.

Paul Sewell, the managing director of the Hull-based Sewell Group and the founder of YIBC in Hull and the Humber, said: “Kevin has been at the very top of his game as a player and a manager. He consistently performed at the highest levels when he was on the pitch and when he was orchestrating things from the touchline. I am certain he will prove to be one of the more popular speakers we’ve had and adds to an already incredible line-up.”

Dr John Buttrick, Director of Hull Children’s University, said: “Kevin is a true legend, he is a top man, and top speaker.”

The announcement of Mr Keegan’s appearance comes a week after impressionist Rory Bremner confirmed his attendance. Now in its seventh year, the annual event has brought scores of inspiring world-class speakers before East Yorkshire’s business community. These have included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Bob Geldof and former US president Bill Clinton.

And this year’s event, which takes place at the Spa, Bridlington on Friday June 15, promises to be just as spectacular.

Other speakers at this year’s convention include retail guru Mary Portas, middle-distance athletic hero Steve Cram and Richard Branson’s former right-hand man, Will Whitehorn.

Politician Michael Portillo will also be appearing.
