Firm's arrival could be catalyst for £100m development success

A MAIL order company has become the first firm to move into a £100m riverside development.

Redcats UK is sub-letting a 15,000 sq ft building at Waterfront Wakefield from Wakefield Council, which pays 15 per sq ft.

It is hoped that the letting will prove a catalyst for the rest of the 100m scheme, developed by CTP St James's, which was officially opened last year.

Oliver Quarmby, of CTP St James, said: "The arrival of our first business occupier is a massive vote of confidence in Waterfront Wakefield and will prove a catalyst for the rest of phase one where we have two further office buildings of 33,000 sq ft to let.

He added: "The apartment building is now fully occupied and there has been a good deal of interest in the retail element of our development, but the arrival of our first office tenant on site should make the idea of running a pub or restaurant on site even more attractive."

The Waterfront Wakefield project features a mix of offices and residential buildings and a 26m gallery and centre for creative arts, The Hepworth Wakefield, as well as new space for cafs, bars and restaurants.
