Firms urged to be in the running to help raise charity cash

YORKSHIRE businesses are being urged to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes by supporting the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K, the region's largest mass participation running event.

Sponsored by Leeds-based law firm Clarion, the event's Corporate Challenge gives local business people the chance to improve their fitness and provide a massive financial boost for a charity of their choice.

Clarion and Jane Tomlinson's Run For All are encouraging companies from across the region to join in this year's event which will be held on Sunday, June 19.

Roger Hutton, senior partner at Clarion, said: "We have sponsored the run for the last five years and it has really caught the imagination of local people – it's always great to see thousands running through the streets of Leeds to raise money for their chosen charity, cheered on by many more."

The race, which was established in 2007, takes place each year to stand as Jane Tomlinson's fundraising legacy.

Mrs Tomlinson, 43, from Rothwell, near Leeds, lost her seven-year battle with cancer in September 2007. Despite being terminally ill, she took part in a large number of gruelling charity challenges, including a sponsored bicycle ride across America.

Mike Tomlinson, Jane's husband, said: "This is the fifth year of the event and the Corporate Challenge has grown at a speed we couldn't have imagined in 2007."
