Firms without e-commerce losing out

Nearly one in six companies are missing out on online sales because their website doesn’t offer e-commerce, according to a new report.

The report, put together by design, marketing and print specialists Catalogues 4 Business (C4B), said a staggering 15 per cent of companies have a website without e-commerce, yet these same companies put out a catalogue to drive sales.

The report said that over 79 per cent of companies stated that having a website with e-commerce is the most important factor when delivering sales.

Ian Simpson, managing director at C4B, said: “The report highlights that a majority of companies have an information-driven website. Remarkably, those same companies invest heavily in a catalogue, yet don’t have an e-commerce function on their site.

“It just doesn’t make sense.”

The report said companies with a big focus on e-commerce are three times more likely to have a catalogue. In addition, companies that have both e-commerce and a catalogue have seen their web sales rise by 29 per cent.
