Fish company aims to get saucy in US

The Grimsby-based firm believes its products, and two new lines catering for US tastes, will be a hit with Americans, following its listing in Norway last year.

The Saucy Fish Co. will be sold in 390 Giant Carlisle and Giant Landover stores, which are based in eight US states. Simon Smith, the sales and marketing director at The Saucy Fish Co said: “This US listing represents a great triumph for The Saucy Fish Co.

“The US is the world’s third largest consumer of seafood, and it’s been reported that consumption of fresh and frozen fish fillets has climbed 12 per cent in 2013.

“We are confident that The Saucy Fish Co will secure further US listings this year, and we expect this to be the first in a line of international announcements over the next 18 months.”

The Saucy Fish Co, which has a turnover of around £35m, was founded in 2010 and employs more than 700 people.

It is owned by Icelandic Seachill, a major supplier of fresh and frozen seafood to UK retailers.
