Former antiques site sold to tile firm

IT was once the home of Britain's biggest antiques dealer but the former Tomlinsons Furniture Group showroom has now been sold to a tile supplier after closing its doors for the final time.

The group, which was based in Wetherby, closed down in February after nearly 40 years of business.

Owner Ray Tomlinson originally started trading on Wetherby High Street in 1977 and following a relocation from a 50,000 sq ft warehouse in Tockwith he then moved to a purpose built showroom adjacent to Junction 46 of the M1 Motorway in 2010.

Stone Vale and Pure Adhesion, specialist suppliers of stone tiles and tiling products, have acquired the showroom where they will relocate from their existing premises in Pannal Harrogate.

Mr Tomlinson said: “This building has been fantastic for me to run my business from over the past five years and I am delighted that we are able to sell it to another local company to aid their expansion.”

Richard Henley, of industrial agent Gent Visick, who brokered the deal, said: “The sale reinforces the significant level of demand we are witnessing in the market for freehold buildings and the continued severe lack of available premises in the North Yorkshire region”.

Matthew Perry, of Stone Vale, added: “We are excited to have secured these new premises, and we look forward to relocating in the coming months. The move will also enable us to develop and expand the business.”
