Founder sells shares in leading agency Logistik

ENTREPRENEUR Dirk Mischendahl has sold his shares in Logistik, the communications and brand agency he founded in 1996.

Mr Mischendahl, a former car mechanic, hotel worker and psychology student, founded Logistik with a team of four, based in a tiny office above what used to be the Town and Country Club in Leeds.

Today, Logistik has strategic communications, events, design, video, web and digital teams under one roof at its Leeds HQ.

Over the last decade, Logistik has become known for organising events such as the London premiere and after show party for Be Cool, the film based on Elmore Leonard’s pulp novel. John Travolta, the film’s biggest star, told the Logistik team that he rated the party as one of the best he had attended.

Yesterday, Mr Mischendahl confirmed he had sold his 50 per cent stake in the business for a “significant” sum. He said he was certain the business would move forward under the leadership of joint managing director James Wilkins, who has been with the business since 2006.

Today, Logistik has a turnover of around £18m and 100 staff.

“It was time for it to move to a different level,’’ said Mr Mischendahl. “What I’m really all about is start-ups.”

He has formed a new company, Demon Leisure, with Seema Dhiman of Demon Consultants. The company is set to launch its first bar in Leeds, The Brotherhood of Pursuits and Pastimes, due to open on the site of the former Gatecrasher club in November. The pair recently launched the Bar & Kitchen at The Tetley in Leeds, a centre for contemporary art and learning.
