Morrisons are feeling the effects of offloading convenience stores, figures show
It’s proving to be a gloomy winter for some supermarkets. The latest grocery share figures from Kantar Worldpanel, published today for the 12 weeks ending December 6 2015, show total grocery market sales are up by only 0.1 per cent compared with last year.

Hide AdThe latest period sees the lowest growth since June and is the ninth consecutive month where sales have increased by less than 1 per cent. Black Friday has done little to buoy the market overall, according to the research.
Morrisons has started to feel the impact of selling 130 of its M Local convenience stores, with revenues down by 2 per cent. Things also remain tough for Tesco and Asda, with both seeing a fall in sales of 3.4 per cent.
Campaigners are demanding a Hillsborough-style inquiry on the Battle of Orgreave
Theresa May, the Home Secretary, will be handed a dossier urging her to set up a full public inquiry or a Hillsborough-style ‘independent panel’ into the 1984 Battle of Orgreave.

Hide AdMembers of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign (OTJC) will present a legal submission with testimonial from miners and their families involved in the clashes between striking pit workers and South Yorkshire Police.
In June, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it would “not be in the public interest” for it to launch a full investigation into claims police used excessive force against miners, had their statements manipulated and gave false evidence in court to justify spurious criminal charges.
The campaign group has since been working on a legal submission and says it had a “very positive” meeting with Mrs May in July where she said she would consider any application for an inquiry.

Hide AdBarry Sheerman, the MP for Huddersfield, has urged the government to stop patronising people over its Northern Powerhouse project. He said: “Will this government stop patronising the North? We are a powerhouse.”
He was speaking during Communities and Local Government questions in the House of Commons. The MP called for investment in Yorkshire’s infrastructure.
Sheerman added: “We are the people that still make things in this country. We make the wealth of this country and many of the people in this part of the world - London, the South - live parasitically on our efforts.”

Sinfield said that he will go to Belfast on Sunday with no expectations and will be amongst a group of tremendous friends from the Leeds Rhinos squad. Those are friendships that he is looking forward to carrying on.
