Ossett, West Yorkshire-based Carclo recently received a boost to its supercar lighting business, used in cars including Aston Martin and Lamborghini, following the award of two substantial new contracts. Carclo said it is involved in a number of other “interesting” new supercar projects, but declined to give further detail.

Carclo has also been signed up by one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers to work on the launch of a new concept phone due out at the end of the year.

Mr Ruffer, originally from Stokesley, North Yorkshire, trained as a stockbroker and barrister before moving into private client investment management in 1980. Ruffer LLP declined to comment.
