GMI installing solar panels at offices

CONTRACTOR GMI Construction Group has launched a new business to install solar pv panels into commercial properties.

GMI Renewable Energy Group, which employs two staff and uses a number of sub-contractors, has already completed projects across the region for clients Town Centre Securities and Pavers Shoes.

The completed systems so far total over 250kW which includes a roof mounted system, comprising 432 solar panels, at Pavers Shoes’ head office and distribution centre in York, and the largest Solyndra solar panel system in the UK on the Clarence Dock car park in Leeds for Town Centre Securities and British Waterways.

The combined systems are expected to generate around 5,000 Mwh of electricity over the 25-year feed in tariff period.

A total income of £1.65m will be generated from the feed-in tariff and save the businesses around £450,000 in electricity based on current energy prices.
