Go ahead for hotel – four years late

Sheffield's first major new development since the start of the economic downturn is underway after work started on a new £10m Holiday Inn Express Hotel.

The 161-bed hotel, created by Amber Hotels, will open on Blonk Street in summer 2011, four years later than planned.

JF Finnegan will build the hotel next to the Holiday Inn Victoria Hotel, which is co-owned by Amber Hotels.

The delay has been caused partly by the recession and also by two archaeological digs, which took almost three years.
