Golf course goes on the market as family calls it a day after 40 years

A family-owned golf course is up for sale. The Holmes family, who own Cocken Lodge, near Leamside, County Durham, is selling the nine-hole course and associated businesses, which it has spent the last 40 years developing. The guide price is £1.2m.

As well as the golf course, Cocken Lodge has a driving range of 12 indoor and six outdoor bays with automated ball delivery. Players also have access to a new clubhouse.

The Holmes family has spent almost 40 years growing Cocken Lodge from a small caravan park.

There is now a caravan sales and storage business alongside the golf course, and a licence for residential caravan units. There is also planning permission for a further residential house.

Owner Lucy Holmes said: "We have spent almost 40 years developing Cocken Lodge from a caravan park to the current range of businesses. The golf course and driving range have earned an impressive reputation."

Ian Gibson, specialist in commercial property with Samuel Phillips law firm, which is handling the sale, added: "Cocken Lodge presents an impressive investment opportunity. Included in the sale are the 28.5 acres of landscaped golf course, a number of businesses, and a large family home."
