Green belt land sale completed

The land, on Storthes Hall Lane in Kirkburton, which has been used for many years for agricultural purposes, was sold to a local land owner on behalf of administrative receivers Grant Thornton.

It is adjacent to the former site of the Storthes Hall Hospital, which now forms part of the Huddersfield University campus.

The Huddersfield office of Eddisons facilitated many aspects of the sale including agricultural licences, sporting and mineral rights, environmental issues, flood assessments, rights of way issues and third-party ownership.

Jonathan O'Connor, of Eddisons, said: "This was a complex sales process which required the satisfactory resolution of many different elements.

"We are delighted to have been able to provide our client with a fully-managed solution and in doing so have achieved an excellent price."

Eddisons has also been instructed to sell a further 32 acres of greenbelt land on Storthes Hall Lane for agricultural use and an acre of potential residential development land on Penistone Road, both on behalf of the Department of Health.

Mr O'Connor said: "The site on Penistone Road enjoys a semi-rural location and its development potential will certainly result in huge interest being received."

A psychiatric hospital operated at Storthes Hall from 1904–1991. It was founded as an asylum and went on to become Storthes Hall Hospital.

The site is now part of Huddersfield University's student accommodation, providing a home for 1,432 students.
