‘Green’ company cleaning up in the world of laundry

EVER since the Don Revie era, Leeds United have been famous for their pristine white shirts.

JTM Service, the company that ensures the club’s shirts look smart, is planning to expand across the north of England as it helps more firms to do their laundry in an environmentally friendly way.

For more than 13 years, JTM Service has been supplying Leeds United with commercial laundry equipment and cleaning services.

It’s a demanding job, because Leeds United’s training academy requires 250 to 300 kit washes per week.

Christabel Anang, the project development manager, at JTM, which is based in Stanningley, near Leeds, said: “With a turnover of £3m, our main market sectors are hospitals, the care sector and hospitality.”

The company has a raft of high-profile clients including West Yorkshire Police, Harrogate NHS Trust, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Newcastle City Council.

A recent project involved installing a rain-water harvesting system for one of its customers in York. As a result, recycled rain water is used in the washing process.

The company, which has 20 staff, recently won the Asian Business Development Network (ABDN) Green Award for environmental excellence.

JTM has recruited two engineers this month and, to help it expand, the company plans to hire another engineer for the North-West by the end of this financial quarter.
