Gregory to kickstart market

A YORKSHIRE-BASED company is set to provide a shot in the arm for the region’s commercial property market,

Gregory Property Group yesterday revealed that it was actively seeking new development opportunities in the region. Chairman Barry Gregory announced that all developments within the group will be carried out through its subsidiary, Gregory Projects.

Mr Gregory has appointed Richard Tovey, who has been with Gregory Group since 1995, as director for Gregory Projects.

Mr Gregory said: “As an industry we have been forced to re-evaluate the way in which we operate.

“At Gregory’s we will be concentrating our efforts on smaller schemes, ideally in the retail and leisure sectors, which can be turned around within a short to medium timeframe.

“However, we would not rule out longer term commercial projects where we can work with landowners to maximise development potential of their landholdings.”

Despite “extremely challenging” conditions, the Leeds-based Gregory Group last year completed the Broad Street Plaza scheme in Halifax, a 280,000 sq ft project which is anchored by a Vue cinema. Ninety per cent of the scheme was pre-let before completion.

Mr Gregory added: “I believe that this level of occupier commitment, at such an early stage, is unprecedented on a project of this type and scale in recent years.

“It certainly gives us a strong platform from which to secure new development opportunities and joint venture partners in the near future. We are now collaborating with a number of parties on new land opportunities in the region.”
