It was founded in November 2008 and now has nearly 5,200 members, with a further 250 applications pending. It is holding a conference in the Royal Armouries in Leeds on March 15.

Those attending will hear from Sir Ian Wrigglesworth, the deputy chairman of the Regional Growth Fund Advisory Panel, which is chaired by Lord Heseltine and appointed by the Government to consider bids.

The Regional Growth Fund is a discretionary 1.4bn fund that will operate between 2011 and 2014 to stimulate enterprise by providing support for projects with significant potential for creating long-term private sector-led economic growth and employment.
