Hall’s new division as group targets £21m sales

HALL Construction Group has created a dedicated renewables division as it targets total sales of £21m this year.

The Hull-based company, an employer of around 100 people with a 125-year trading history, said the new division will develop the group’s existing work in renewables, which ranges from heat pump and biomass projects to construction of infrastructure for onshore wind farms. The firm recorded a turnover of £15m last year.

Renewables manager Steve Ward said that the initial target will be to explore opportunities arising from the Government’s Green Deal and the Renewable Heat Incentive, which are designed to help householders and businesses increase the energy efficiency of their properties across the UK and recoup installation costs.

“Part of our role is to raise awareness of the group’s existing renewables capabilities,” said Mr Ward, who has specialised in renewables for the last nine years.

“Hall Group has always embraced quality management systems and this is integral to our renewables delivery mechanism. Robust management is fundamental to this sector and is vital for businesses planning to undertake works via the Green Deal.

“The creation of this department strengthens the group by incorporating people who have the experience that is needed in the different areas of renewables activity.”

Previous renewables projects completed by Hall Group include the £4.3m zero-carbon Moorgate Crofts Business Centre in Rotherham and the construction of sub-stations and roadways for onshore wind farms in East Yorkshire and Cumbria.

The company is currently undertaking the installation of air source heat pumps for 50 homes owned by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Richard Weeks, the team’s sales manager, said: “Because energy is becoming more expensive, government funding such as the Renewable Heat Incentive is attractive and all sorts of people are realising the benefits of renewables.”

Family-owned Hall Construction Group traces its roots back to 1887 when Francis Hall, the present chairman’s great grandfather, founded the company as F Hall Builders.
