Harrow Green books in for library job

Business relocation specialist Harrow Green is to manage Wakefield Library’s move from the city centre to its new home at Wakefield One.

The project, which is due to start later this year, will see the Leeds-based company pack and relocate the stock.

Wakefield library currently occupies two locations – the main lending library in Drury Lane and the Balne Lane local studies, reference library and administrative headquarters. Both will relocate to the new site.

Wakefield One is the council’s new civic office building incorporating the library, museum and customer access point, as well as administrative staff.

Among the items to be moved are around 4,400 metres of books, plus filing cabinets, cupboards, drawers, map cabinets, a range of library and archive material, and a huge solid oak display case donated to the authority by Charles Skidmore in 1906.

The display case will be dismantled and reassembled at the new premises. A further 22,500 books will be moved from open shelves along with the library reserve collection, which will be re-housed in a secure mobile shelving system.
