Henry Boot launches new division aimed at renewable energy

HENRY Boot Construction has launched a renewable energy division which it says will “strategically position” the firm for growth over the coming years.

The business said it plans to position itself at the forefront of micro-generation renewable energy technologies, initially focusing on the solar PV, heat pumps and wind power markets.

The Government has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 34 per cent by 2020 and mandatory revenues through the Carbon Reduction Commitment.

Henry Boot said further incentives through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Scheme and Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) are already forming a significant part of its core business, through both public and private landlords, and the new division is a natural extension of this process.

The company will target future energy-efficient retrofits and rebuilds through the Government’s Green Deal and other associated directives.

Gary Toomey has been appointed as regional manager and brings renewable energy experience in both the UK and overseas. He is joined by technical manager, Nick Badcock, and a team of staff based at the company’s Dronfield head office, in Derbyshire.

Jamie Boot, group managing director, said: “As a company, we aim to send out a clear message of our intention to provide the expertise and a well-respected brand for delivering clean energies in order to make a significant contribution to the environment for future generations.”

Simon Carr, managing director, said: “We are really enthused by this initiative, which will be a positive move to align our business to the needs of this sector.

“We believe there are great opportunities for growth in this area, which will alleviate the challenging conditions of the reduction in capital spend associated with reduced public expenditure on general construction.”

Mr Toomey added: “I am relishing the opportunity to work for a well-established and respected company which has identified that the key to emerging green agendas is the capability to deliver.

“We are looking forward to establishing and developing the company’s reputation in the renewables sector.”
