Hiley teams up as engineer makes first foray into Russia

The contract is Hiley’s first move into Russia.

The Halifax-based group is keen to expand its export business and has previously produced equipment for the North and South American markets.

As part of the deal Hiley is working with Austrian firm Franz Haas and a number of original equipment manufacturers.

One challenge is to create a bespoke conveyor system that will seamlessly slot in to and integrate with the other manufacturers’ products in the project. Mark Hiley, the company’s managing director, said “All projects present unique challenges, most of which we solve through the application of tested technology and proven principles.

“However, there are invariably a number of elements that require innovative and inspired design work.”

The contract involved Hiley securing GOST (Gosudarstvennyy standart) certification, as the CE (Conformite Europeenne) mark utilised throughout much of the EU is not recognised in Russia.

One of the most important elements was ensuring the five trucks containing the Hiley products met up with the four trucks carrying equipment sourced from other equipment manufacturers, in order to do a synchronised Russian border crossing on one set of documents.

The system is currently being installed and is due to be commissioned in the coming weeks.
