Historic site’s revamp attracts five tenants

Five new deals have been concluded at an historic building which has been refurbished in the centre of Leeds.

The transformation of 156,000 sq ft Joseph’s Well in Westgate, which was originally built in the 19th century for Leeds clothing magnate and MP Sir John Barran, has attracted a number of new tenants, including Barnsley College and a firm of London accountants.

The renovation of the five-storey building was undertaken by Leeds-based construction and property company J Pullan & Sons on behalf of a family trust.

Other tenants include recruitment firm the Orchard Agency, software company Sonocent, London-based accountants Cox, Costello and Horne, and web designer Olympic Support.

Rents are £15.75 per sq ft, including all service charges, and are fixed for three years.

Bruce Strachan, property director of Pullan’s, said: “The refurbishment was a true labour of love and these five new lettings are a vindication of the work we have done.”

He added: “The refurbishment has completely changed the nature of Joseph’s Well. It is now flooded with light from above through a new rooflight and glass staircase which gives it a modern, cutting-edge ambience. We have used three kilometres of wallpaper to enhance the office suites and corridors, whilst the new entrance and reception, together with the elegant staircase and state-of-the-art meeting rooms, create a fantastic first impression.”

Agents for Joseph’s Well are WSB and Carter Towler.
