Hopes for more jobs as business park expands

SMALL businesses could soon have the chance to hire staff on a fast-growing Yorkshire business park.

Two plots of development land at St James’ Business Park near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire have been acquired by Yorkshire developers.

A 1.5 acre plot, close to the Harrogate bypass, has been bought by Bradford-based Martree Developments.

A further 0.8 acre site nearby has been sold to a Yorkshire-based father and son business team, who have asked to remain anonymous.

The sale of both sites has been handled by property consultant Carter Jonas. There are plans to build light industrial starter units ranging in size from 1,000 to 8,000 sq ft on the sites.

William Marshall, a spokesman for Martree Developments, said: “This is part of our ongoing strategy for the expansion of Martree’s commercial property portfolio. We considered the Knaresborough site offered us a strong location.

“There is a gap in the market for small-sized business units, which we will be developing at St James and which we provide on our many business parks across the region.”

Chris Hartnell, a surveyor at Carter Jonas, said “Both sales achieved a strong land value considering the climate and there is only a single-acre plot remaining at the site.”
