Housebuilders awarded £120m contract to redevelop hospital site

TWO HOUSEBUILDERS have been awarded a £120m contract to develop land that could see around 700 new homes built.

Keepmoat and Strata have been jointly appointed by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as preferred developers for land at the Seacroft Hospital site, Leeds.

The land redevelopment could see around 700 new homes built. The properties, which will be on the open market as well as available to purchase on the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme, will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes.

Naomi Beckett, area manager for the HCA, said the homes were not only much needed but the development would also help create a new community.

Mark Knight, regional managing director for Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire, said: “Public sector clients are confident in our ability to deliver on our plans, and we are reassured that investment in this part of the country will be beneficial to both local people, the community and the economy.”

Andrew Weaver, chief executive for Strata, said: “We are very much looking forward now to working closely with our partners in delivering a quality housing scheme that will herald a new and exciting chapter at Seacroft.”

Keepmoat and Strata are currently working together on a number of projects including the £250m Dominion development on Woodfield Way, Doncaster, which is also on HCA land.

They are also working with Home Group and Hull City Council to build over 4,000 new homes across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Construction work on the £120m Seacroft project will begin in late 2015 and will play an integral part in both companies’ plans to further expand into West Yorkshire in 2015 and beyond.
