Housing association buys former mill

A REDUNDANT industrial complex, which was earmarked for a £35m office development, has been snapped up by a housing association after the previous developer went into administration.

Pennine Housing Association bought the former Gannex Mills at Elland, near Halifax, for an undisclosed sum, from City Services, which went into administration last August.

Matthew Scholey, of chartered surveyors Eddisons, who concluded the sale, said: "This deal has been completed despite tough economic conditions."

The association also acquired approximately 3.75 acres of prime development land on Huddersfield Road in Elland.

The land is within an area allocated as a new employment site and could be suitable for industrial or commercial use.
