HSBC will rundown US card business if buyer not found

HSBC Holdings is upbeat on the medium term for the United States economy but would run down its credit card business there if it cannot find a buyer, the bank’s chief executive said today.

Europe’s largest bank said last month it aimed to slash up to $3.5bn (£2.2bn) in costs and cut back in retail banking, to lift its return on equity.
