Ice cream maker hires director

YORKSHIRE-based R&R Ice Cream, the UK's largest ice cream manufacturer, has appointed Bob Bigley as it first director of corporate development.

During a business career spanning 30 years, Mr Bigley has held director level posts in the property, banking and accountancy sectors.

In 2005, he joined Leeds-based property company Town Centre Securities as finance and group development director.

James Lambert, chief executive of R&R Ice Cream, said: "Bob has financial and corporate development expertise gained at the highest level and I am delighted he is joining the team."

R&R Ice Cream – originally known as Richmond Ice Cream – launched in the UK in 1985.

It has three factories with more than 850 employees in the UK.

R&R Ice Cream, which is based near Northallerton, was created in 2006 by Oaktree Capital Management which, following its 180m purchase of Richmond Foods, merged Richmond Ice Cream with the German ice cream business Roncadin. The group also has two sites in Germany and one each in France and Poland.
