Independent living company expands

A company which helps people to live independently has expanded its operations across Yorkshire.

Independent Home Living has set up a base in North Street, Wetherby, to cover the Harrogate and Wetherby areas.

Independent Home Living, which has its head office in Scarborough, was founded in November 2000 by Ann Wyatt and Alison Thompson.

The firm, which employs more than 150 staff, offers personalised homecare and support services.

A spokesman said the opening of the Wetherby office had led to the creation of six jobs and it was hoped that more staff would be hired soon. He said "word of mouth" recommendations had helped to sustain the business during the recession.

Apart from Scarborough and Wetherby, Independent Home Living has offices in Beverley and York and receives around 2,000 care calls a week.

The firm provides a range of services for clients across Yorkshire, helping people to bathe, dress and shop. It also offers help with tasks such as washing and ironing, dusting and polishing and provides specialised 24-hour care.
