Industry ‘has to plan for long term’

The technology industry needs long-term strategies to increase innovation and future economic prosperity, according to a data centre and communications specialist.

The sector has been highlighted as a major area for growth in the UK economy but Andrew Gilbert, managing director of Node4, said the industry needed more than transient businesses.

“It’s an encouraging sign that entrepreneurs are receiving the backing to create start-ups in the technology sector but there are a number of key aspects that are often overlooked,” he said. “In the past, many have done themselves a disservice by underestimating the importance of quality and reliability of the service as well as competition in the marketplace and when unprepared start-ups do this, it is often to the detriment of the entire sector.”

Node4 has an £11m turnover and data centres in Wakefield and Derby.
