An insight into industry hits century

A FACTORY visit programme, which aims to give manufacturers an insight into how their peers have improved their business performance, reached a milestone yesterday with the launch of their 100th event.

The Inside Industry event took place at Tadcaster-based Lambert, which makes automated production machinery for the fast-moving consumer goods and medical sectors.

Inside Industry was the brainchild of the Manufacturing Advisory Service Yorkshire & Humber to give manufacturers an insight into how their peers use specific tools and strategies to improve performance.

Since its introduction in 2006, the programme has seen 1,500 people from 750 companies take part in the visits, which include a presentation of the host company’s specialist area, a full site tour, a question and answer session and networking opportunities.

The first business to host an Inside Industry visit was Barnsley-based Euroglaze, manufacturers of uPVC windows and doors to the trade.

Since then, a wide range of manufacturers from across the region including Sheffield-based Gripple, Leeds-based AW Hainsworth, Huddersfield-based WT Johnson, Eggborough-based Saint Gobain and Piper’s Crisps in Barton on Humber, have shared some of the secrets of their success with their peers.

Robin Watson, MAS regional director, said: “We are delighted with the success of the Inside Industry programme.

“Working with other local manufacturers to pool knowledge and resources has never been more important than in these current challenging times.”
