Interest on rise after zone status

NEWS that the Aire Valley in Leeds has been designated enterprise zone status has led to enquiries rising by 22 per cent for one of the developments within the scheme.

Under the rules of the scheme, businesses moving into the enterprise zone will be given tax incentives in the form of business rates relief and increased capital allowances.

It will also benefit from relaxed planning rules.

Rob Whatmuff, regional head of industrial and logistics agency at Lambert Smith Hampton in Leeds, said enquiries for space at the 80,000 sq ft Connex 45 development have increased since the news was announced last month.

Interested occupiers include manufacturing and distribution companies.

The site is situated within the Thornes Farm area.

Mr Whatmuff said: “The planning consent has already been implemented thereby allowing the developers to start on site within a very short timeframe. As such, we expect it to feature highly on the list of occupiers’ potential new locations.”
