International trade's vital role for region

DEputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg presented his view and future policy on international trade and what it means for South Yorkshire when he met a group of business people at the Cutlers Hall in Sheffield.

The event was jointly organised by the Cutlers Company and the South Yorkshire International Trade Forum as they joined forces for the first time.

The Sheffield Hallam MP talked about the region's manufacturing advantage as well as existing and developing export markets.

The address was followed by a question and answer session about the lack of finance available for businesses from banks.

Bernd Klein, former chairman of the forum, who jointly chaired the event with Neil Macdonald, of the Cutlers Company, said: "The discussion between members of the event, the first but not the last joint event between the Cutler's Company and the SY International Trade Forum, showed the importance of international trade for the region."
