THE Sheffield office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has taken on James Foster as an associate in its corporate team.

He said:“Irwin Mitchell is a progressive and innovative law firm and clearly in a very strong position to take advantage of what is a fast-changing legal sector.

“I’ve been impressed with its growth in recent years and the investment it has made in its commercial practice and I look forward to working with the team and its wide range of clients as it looks to build on this.”

Also in the legal sector, North Yorkshire-based Coles Solicitors has opened an office in Guisborough and added a new member to its team.

The firm, which launched in 2007, and has seven branches across North Yorkshire, has enlisted Michelle Bennison to help run the new office and manage administration and reception.

Ms Bennison, formerly of Ian Cowie Solicitors, said: “It’s exciting to be part of a milestone in a well-established North Yorkshire law firm and I’m really looking forward to the company’s future.”

Managing director Peter Gibson said: “Having grown up in East Cleveland, it has been an ambition of mine to provide legal services to the community in which I feel the most affinity.

“With our comprehensive team of legal experts, we can serve the needs of our clients in our brand new office and offer them a more local service.

“I am thrilled to be bringing Coles home!”

The company is looking into more expansion possibilities and has decided to take an office at Hornbeam Park in Harrogate, which will be used primarily for consulting.

The group, which has offices in Northallerton, York, Thirsk, Settle, Yarm, and now Guisborough, has grown largely through acquisition and can trace its roots back more than 200 years.

Elsewhere, the Leeds office of CBRE, the commercial property and real estate services advisory firm, has appointed Scott Morrison as a surveyor within its national valuation and advisory services team.

Previously at Eddisons, Mr Morrison will be working with the firm’s client base across the North of England.
