'It's like an iPhone for fleet managers'

LEEDS-based Masternaut is claiming a world first after launching a new type of vehicle-tracking system based around a single unit.

The company, headed by entrepreneur Martin Port, said its Mobile Communication Centre (MCC) combines vehicle tracking, GPS satellite navigation, hands-free mobile communications and real-time job scheduling and messaging.

It eliminates the need for separate sat-nav, mobile phones and hands-free equipment, said the company.

Martin Port, managing director, said: "For a fleet manager, it's their version of the iPhone. It's something that's absolutely at the height of innovation."

It also integrates with Masternaut's Three X mobile workforce applications, as well as Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft CRM, providing a wireless link to important business data while on the move.

Mr Port added: "The new Mobile Communication Centre is a breakthrough in in-vehicle technology. It gives fleet operators everything they could possibly need in a single cost-effective unit.

"As a fully integrated system, it reduces cost of ownership, removing the need for extra equipment, installations and maintenance. Drivers – the users – will also appreciate that they only have to use a single device and will prefer the familiar look and use of the touchscreen."

Masternaut has 150,000 telematics units installed across Europe with more than 65,000 subscribers in the UK.
