It's the little things that can help...

A consumer website has called on politicians to make a series of small changes which members of the public claim would make a big difference to their lives.

Users of MoneySavingExpert. com have created a list of 37 issues that annoy them, which they would like politicians to help change.

Items on the list range from being given the option to pay council tax on a monthly basis, rather than in 10 instalments during the year, to banning surcharges on debit card payments and ending retrospective energy price hikes.

Consumers are also calling for savings account statements to include the current interest rate being paid and for people to have the right to know what rate a company will offer them on a personal loan or credit card before an application is recorded on their credit file.

Other issues consumers would like to see resolved included forcing airlines to include all of their charges in their main price.

Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, said: "Whether it's tighter controls on door-to-door sales people, making mobile phone companies responsible when their cashback deals go wrong or making restaurants display what they do with their tips, tidying up the little issues that annoy may actually show the political process can deliver.

"I just hope they listen."
