‘Jacket’ perfect fit for Vulcan SFM
SHEFFIELD Forgemasters’ specialist offshore technology and project management division, Vulcan SFM, will play a major role in the construction of a new oil platform in the North Sea.
Offshore Group Newcastle (OGN) has secured a £50m deal for the design and fabrication of an oil and gas ‘jacket’, an offshore platform support structure which is fixed to the sea-bed – for operator Talisman Sinopec Energy UK’s MonArb pro- ject.
OGN awarded Vulcan a multi-million pound contract to design and manufacture the jacket castings.

Hide AdPaul Mockford, a design director of Vulcan SFM, said: “No other company in the world has our experience and knowledge of designing and manufacturing these complex safety-critical cast- ings.
“These castings form an integral part of the structure and will need to function for the life of the structure in extremely harsh operating conditions.”
