Jet2.com owner sees tough times ahead

AIRLINE and leisure company Dart Group reported a rise in annual profits, but warned that challenging economic conditions will continue to affect its aviation business.

The Leeds-based group, which runs the Jet2.com airline, reported an 18 per cent increase in pre-tax profits to £26.2m for the year to March 31.

Dart said its strategy is to understand and meet the holiday needs of its Northern based customers.

“We fly carefully scheduled flights to high volume leisure destinations, offering ‘friendly low fares’ to seat only customers and ‘package holidays you can trust’ to Jet2holidays’ customers,” said the group’s chairman Philip Meeson.

“Both products meet the demand for real value in these difficult and uncertain economic times.”

The group said that higher utility prices, the rising cost of food and fuel, and employment uncertainty, are all taking their toll on leisure spend.

“Both our seat only and package holiday products are absolutely geared to meet the holiday needs of value seeking customers,” said Mr Meeson.
