Jobs fillip as mill gets fresh lease of life

PLANS to create hundreds of jobs at the Sunny Bank Mills complex in Farsley, near Leeds, will be unveiled next week.

The Sunny Bank Mills Vision Open Day on November 27 will demonstrate how the historic mill complex, once the home of Emmerdale and Heartbeat, is being transformed into a business centre for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Owners and directors William and John Gaunt have invested £2.5m into Sunny Bank Mills during the past four years to regenerate the site. So far 120 new jobs have been created.

John Gaunt said: “We estimate that 500 new jobs will have been created here by 2020, making Sunny Bank Mills the economic powerhouse of Farsley once again.”

This open day, starting at 3pm, will be attended by the Gaunts, architects KPP, marketing consultants Dove Haigh Phillips and ward councillors from Leeds City Council. It will feature an exhibition detailing the past history of, and future plans for, the site and will remain open to the public for two weeks.
