Jobs hope as broker W Denis gets in tune with Dutch musicians

THOUSANDS of Dutch musicians will soon rely on a Yorkshire-based firm to insure their instruments against theft, damage and freak accidents.

It’s a development which could create jobs in Yorkshire.

Leeds-based W Denis Insurance Brokers has secured an agreement which means it can provide ‘point of sale’ insurance services for 600 musical instrument retailers across the Netherlands.

The five-year contract is worth up to 15m euros in total premiums. It follows another deal arranged by W Denis earlier in the year which provides insurance for Dutch retailers of electronic gadgets, mobile phones and tablet computers.

Mark Dutton, a director at W Denis Insurance Brokers, said: “The export of (re)insurance services is prohibited in some countries by the local government and the regulator. We have overcome this through receiving permission from the FSA to passport our services in 11 continental European countries. This type of deal is beneficial to our business in that it further diversifies our book of business and is a long-term contract.

“It is also potentially very lucrative in view of having low operational costs. It is managed very efficiently through the use of intelligent IT systems which record data and issue policies.”

The W Denis Group has 60 staff at its Leeds head office, and more could be hired in response to demand. Mr Dutton said: “It is our intention to continue to innovate and grow our business organically and this is certainly leading to the creation of more job opportunities.”
