Joseph is the latest to take the reins at Richardson

JOSEPH Richardson has been appointed managing director of Yorkshire family business, Jos Richardson & Son.

He is the fifth generation Richardson to work in the Goole-based family firm, which was established in 1892 by his great- great grandfather, also called Joseph Richardson. Mr Richardson joined the business in 2004 which then comprised of two car dealerships and service station at Glews Garage, Goole.

In the last eight years, director Mr Richardson has grown the forecourt and convenience store side of the business with the purchase and development of four new forecourt sites.

He said: “My objective is to grow the forecourt side of the business even further with the acquisition of more sites. The convenience sector is growing and playing an increasing role in people’s everyday shopping habits.”

His father, Timothy Richardson, will take on the role of chairman after serving for 30 years as managing director.

Elsewhere, Carter Jonas is expanding its rural division with the appointment of David Davenport to the York office as a rural surveyor. He joins Carter Jonas from East Riding of Yorkshire Council where he carried out estate management and the sale of all types of rural property, as well as providing rural planning advice to the authority’s development control team as a valuation and estates surveyor.

Meanwhile, flat glass expert Garry Smith, who has more than 25 years’ industry experience, has joined Sheffield-based Glass Technology Services (GTS) as part of a major investment programme to meet increasing demand for testing and consultancy throughout the supply chain.

He joins from NSG Group, where as technical advisory service manager for nearly ten years, he provided specialist advice on the specification and use of glass.

He was also responsible for troubleshooting projects and providing support on technical issues for designers, architects, specifiers and end-customers.
