JPG to advise on riverside development

Civil and structural engineering consultancy JPG is to advise on a proposed redevelopment in the centre of Leeds.

Warehouse Hill, situated at 20-24 The Calls in Leeds city centre, is part of the development along the River Aire in Leeds city centre.

Owner and developer Commercial Development Projects (CDP) of Elland is proposing to deliver 77 apartments alongside retail and office provisions. The development will be centred around a public piazza adjacent to the river.

Leeds-based JPG has advised on the structural elements for the refurbishment of an existing building and the construction of two new reinforced concrete framed buildings.

Gary Howarth, at JPG, said: “The sites’ proximity of the River Aire, the need for demolition and refurbishment of existing buildings, and construction within a confined city centre site location present a number of challenges.

“A reinforced concrete frame has been selected for the structure of the two new-build apartment blocks due to their irregular layout to minimise structural zones within the apartments, and to meet the required acoustic specification for this high-quality development. Utilising a concrete frame has also assisted in the design and location of structural columns within the basement car park to maximise parking spaces.”

2B Architecture are designing the scheme and ID Planning advising on the planning application.
