Karro to invest £500,000 at plant

KARRO Food Group, the £540m turnover pork supplier to the retail and food service industries, is to invest £500,000 upgrading the main processing line at its site in Malton, North Yorkshire.

The investment will be used to improve the hair removal process in the pig processing chain.

The upgrade comes as part of an ongoing review of manufacturing operations.

Work will start next month and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2014.

The investment comes 11 months after the acquisition of the business by Leeds-based private equity firm Endless from Vion, which resulted in the relocation of its HQ to Malton.

Di Walker, the executive chairman at Karro Food Group, said: “We review our processing practices on an ongoing basis and we’re committed to investing in technology and techniques to improve the way that we operate and are able to service our valued customers.

“At Karro, we believe it’s very important to work closely with the farmers on our doorstep in Yorkshire.”
