Labour experts get on-site

AN organisation which helps to deliver construction jobs has moved on-site at the Leeds Arena development to co-ordinate the opportunities the £60m project will create.

At the height of building work, which is due to take just under two years to complete, up to 300 people are expected to be employed on site, including 30 apprentices.

Members of Construction Leeds, a division of regeneration charity re’new, will spend two days a week on site liaising with main contractor, BAM, Leeds City Council, Leeds Building College and sub contractors to co-ordinate delivery of the social aspects of the scheme.

These include sourcing local labour, using local sub-contractors and offering work experience opportunities to people hoping for a career in construction.

Construction Leeds project coordinator Catherine Fay said: “We are not there to act as a job centre, but to liaise with the key players and offer advice and guidance where needed.”
