Lack of hub capacity is hurting the UK.

This week Heathrow released figures which showed North American traffic was booming. As ever, New York was by far our busiest route.

Yet as the balance of economic strength shifts from the developed world to emerging markets, it’s the growth economies of the future that UK businesses are desperate to fly to.

Recently, Aeromexico was finally able to announce a new route from Heathrow to Mexico City – the capital of Latin America’s second largest economy – after waiting four years for a free slot.

We would like to welcome more flights from other airlines that could bring trade, growth and jobs to the whole of the

UK. Instead our lack of hub airport capacity is causing us to fall further behind the rest of Europe.

• Heathrow offers 25 daily flights to North America, and three daily flights to South America and the Caribbean

• Heathrow currently offers flights to 20 destinations in North America not served by any other UK airport

• Currently, there are four destinations in South America served daily from other European hubs but not served daily from Heathrow.
