Landmark India deal for Aecom

AECOM’s design-build business has signed an exclusive agreement with Aquatech Systems Asia to launch its water treatment technology in India.

The two firms have already secured a major contract with Mumbai International Airport’s integrated waste treatment and recycle-reuse project and are looking for other projects to work on.

Aecom, based in Barnsley, has already used its Cyclic Activated Sludge System (CASS) on large-scale projects in the US but this is the first time it has been implemented in India.

Malcolm Watchorn, programme manager for Aecom design-build, said: “We are very excited about Aquatech’s capabilities and the enormous market potential for our CASS technology in India. We have found the right local partner we are looking forward to pioneering this technology together in India.”

The technology has already been applied in a number of industrial and municipal plants, some of which have capacities in excess of 150m litres per day.

Aquatech Systems, based in Pune, India, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aquatech International in the US.

Devesh Sharma, Aquatech’s managing director, said: “We are pleased to be working with Aecom’s design-build business. With this advanced sequence batch reactor technology, we will enhance our position in the Indian wastewater treatment market.”
