Lap of luxury for dogs after approval

Plans for a luxury dog kennel and grooming centre have been approved as part of the redevelopment of a North Yorkshire hotel into a five-star venue.

The kennel and grooming parlour, plus 21 bedrooms for guests, will be built at Raithwaite Keep, which is part of the 30m redevelopment of Raithwaite Hall Country Resort, near Whitby, after plans were passed by Scarborough Borough Council's Planning Committee.

Once finished the revitalised building will create 40 extra jobs on top of the 120 created in the main hotel.

The development is currently half-way through the build programme.

Paul Ellis, managing director of developer the Skelwith Group, said: "This is the final hurdle; Wates Construction, the main contractor, is currently on-site and is half-way through the complex build programme for the main hotel, and is ready to start working on the Keep immediately.

"Now that we have planning permission for the Keep it's going to be full steam ahead, This was the last piece in the jigsaw to bring this fantastic development to fruition and to make it a reality.

He added: "Our luxury kennel and grooming centre will give those dog owners who want to go away with their pets the opportunity to do so. Not only that, man's best friend will be able to experience the same five-star luxury their owner is enjoying in the main hotel.

"We have designed this element of the project so that it takes all the stress out of taking your dog away with you."

Construction of the Keep will start in 2011, with the 45-bed five-star hotel, which will include a spa, fine dinning restaurant, luxurious bar and conferencing facilities, all set within 80 acres of gardens and Yorkshire countryside due to open in the summer of 2011.
