His appointment by the Yorkshire-based law firm follows almost two years as chief executive officer of private investment fund John Laithwaite Partners.

Prior to this, Mr Pilling was a leading partner at Addleshaw Goddard, where he had been a partner for 12 years. Having spent seven years building a corporate and private equity practice in London, he returned to Leeds in 2009 to focus on the local market for Addleshaw Goddard.

John Holden, senior partner, Gordons, said: “Simon is a significant addition to Gordons and we are really looking forward to him joining the team.

“He is a talented and ambitious lawyer, with great experience and contacts in the region and further afield.

“Simon has extensive relationships in Yorkshire and nationally with a number of private equity houses and direct experience of leading and growing significant client relationships. He has a high profile in the Leeds market and a very strong set of relationships across the market.”

Mr Pilling said: “Gordons is a very different kind of law firm. It is straightforward, entrepreneurial and gets things done. Most importantly to me, Gordons has a very clear strategic ambition to be the leading law firm in Yorkshire in the next three years.”

Gordons is a £25.3m turnover firm with offices in Leeds, Bradford and London.
