Law firms' chance to create links with India

YORKSHIRE law firms could be on the brink of forging lucrative ties with the booming Indian legal market.

The Law Society will today host a legal practice conference in Leeds, featuring leading professionals from India, the UK and other EU jurisdictions.

The conference is being supported by Leeds Legal, an alliance of the city's law firms.

Rosemary Edwards, from Leeds Legal, who will participate in the event at HSBC's offices in Leeds, said: "As part of Leeds Legal's ongoing international programme we've made excellent progress in communicating the benefits of Leeds to a range of European and worldwide organisations.

"We know the formula works as we are starting to see the city's law firms developing commercial opportunities as a direct result of previous visits.

"India is a market we are keen to penetrate and forge business links with, to develop opportunities for lawyers and businesses across the region. We are pleased to be supporting the Law Society's annual India legal practice conference. It's a great opportunity to showcase the expertise that Leeds offers and to develop key business links with international counterparts."

The sessions will include a panel discussion on the subject of 'India's Emerging Cities, Emerging Sectors and Emerging Leaders' hosted by the UK India Business Council, as well as keynote speeches from the London Stock Exchange and UKTI.
