Leading business school names new dean

A top Yorkshire business school has named a former Shell strategist as its new dean.

Sarah Dixon will take over at Bradford University School of Management in September when Professor Arthur Francis retires.

Dr Dixon, currently head of MSc programmes at the University of Bath, spent 24 years at Shell, taking in mergers and acquisitions and petrochemicals roles in Moscow, Vienna and London before leaving the oil giant in 2000.

She said she was delighted to join Bradford University, whose business school is one of the top ten in the country.

"We are operating in an increasingly challenging environment with Government funding cuts and international competition.

"My intention is to encourage innovation across all areas of activity and increase our co-operation with business, public and third sector organisations.

"In the jargon of a business strategist, I am keen to secure sustainable competitive advantage for the school."

In her time at Shell Dr Dixon was M&A manager in capital management, a business strategist, chemicals manager in Moscow and petrochemicals manager in Austria.
