Lecture will reveal ‘science of engagement’

COLIN Byrne, a leading public relations and public affairs practitioner who has led campaigns on behalf of the Labour Party and the Prince of Wales, will host a guest lecture at Leeds Beckett University.

The free, public event entitled, ‘A new era in communication; the science of engagement’, is part of the annual Leeds Business School lecture series, and is sponsored by Yorkshire Bank. Mr Byrne is CEO of global PR firm Weber Shandwick in the UK and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and has nearly 30 years’ experience spanning domestic and international PR, political and public affairs campaigns. During his lecture, Mr Byrne will discuss the science of engagement.

After several years in the private and not-for-profit sector PR, Mr Byrne joined the Labour Party’s communications team in 1987 and was promoted to head of press and broadcasting.

In 1992 he became the first communications director of The Prince of Wales Business Leaders’ Forum.

Paul Houghton, the principal lecturer in Leeds Beckett’s Faculty of Business and Law, said: “Colin has been tasked with a range of international campaigns and initiatives throughout his career with Weber Shandwick, as well as for high profile figures ranging from Prince Charles to political leaders. This lecture promises to be a fascinating insight into the fast-paced world of public relations and public affairs.”
