The company’s profits grew by 5.1 per cent to £129.4m over the last financial year, after its results were boosted by a strong performance from the Hitachi Capital Consumer Finance team, which operates from Leeds with 620 employees.

A spokesman said: “Central to its success this year was record growth for its direct personal loans business, Hitachi Personal Finance, which grew 11 per cent to in excess of £1bn for the first time in a 12-month period.”

Robert Gordon, CEO of Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC, said: “I’m proud of our colleagues who have worked extremely hard to deliver consistent growth in a period of unprecedented challenges.

“This is a reflection of the agility, adaptability and dedication to customer service that is engrained in the culture of our business. These qualities, along with the sound financial foundation they have enabled us to build, will be crucial as we prepare for the challenging economic outlook ahead.”

Mr Gordon added: “There’s no doubt the next 12 months will be hard and the pandemic has undoubtedly checked our growth in the last few months, but looking ahead I am confident that the improvements we’ve made will strengthen the business.”

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
